Whether I am writing a novel or not, one of the constants in my life is having tea in the afternoons with friends. I write in the mornings until early afternoon, so socializing for me often happens at around 2 o’clock. I have tea once a week with some friends. Others once a month. Before life changed, I invited them over to my house, met at their houses, or more often we met at a local coffee shop.
I am still emailing, texting, and calling my friends, and am grateful for today’s technology. But as you have probably experienced yourself, it is different.
I miss those days of greetings (and farewells) with hugs, laughing over something silly, and having deep conversations with genuine eye-contact.
And so, today, I invite you to an imaginary tea party.
Since we haven’t had tea before and we are still getting to know each other, tell me something that will help me get a sense of who you are. I’ll offer some questions, but feel free to come up with something else. How are you creative? What are you curious about? What are you most proud of yourself for?
In other words, tell me something that you want me and my other readers to know about you. If you aren’t in the mood to comment, you can use these questions to get to know yourself on a deeper level.
Love,
Susan
Note: If you get these posts via email, and would prefer one weekly email instead of daily, simply click the “preferences” button at the bottom of the email, then click “all available” and a drop-down will appear with the two options. Uncheck the top list and check the weekly option, then click the “update subscriptions” button. Thanks!
Note to newcomers: I love my reader community, so I am posting something uplifting on this blog and also on my facebook page every day at 4 pm (Eastern) until we get through the Covid-19 crisis.

I love the outdoors, so am happy that I finally have daffodils ready to pop open and the lilies are really sprouting. I like working in the garden and playing with my pitbull. We mostly play inside, so I throw the balls down the hall for him. We did have a couple of warm days so we could play outside. I love animals and I do miss having lunch with my friends. They were never much into hugging until I started hugging them and now we all hug each other so I really miss them. My lifelong friend who died left me with a lot of her family and we see each other often so I get hugs from them. I see you are like me in that you enjoy a cup of tea and when it is bitter outside I even love a cup of hot chocolate.
Hi Wanda. I’m so glad you have your dog. He sounds like a great companion, and you sound like a good dog mom. I’m so glad you started hugging your friends. Getting and giving hugs are the good life, in my view. Here’s to a nice cup of tea!
Thanks so much for helping us to get to know you a little bit.
Hugs,
Susan
I always wanted to be a writer. I so admire your ability – and any other writer’s – to think and stay focused enough to write an entire novel. I’m so jealous!
Thank you for your gift to us who love to read.
It is my honor and pleasure, Donna. I’ve been writing for 25 years, so I’ve kind of got the hang of it now. At the same time, it is always scary and humbling to put stories out into the world, big or small. Thanks so much for reading my books, as well as these daily resilience dispatches.
With every good wish,
Susan
P.S. I encourage you to write in whatever form makes sense to you. No regrets allowed. 🙂
