Today’s dispatch is a message from Old Sally, one of the characters I created for the Temple Secret Series. She is often cited as a reader favorite.

For anyone who doesn’t know, the Temple Secret Series consists of Temple Secrets and the sequel, Gullah Secrets. The wise old woman character, Old Sally, is of Gullah descent and 100 years of age. For more than half her life she worked for the prominent Temple family in Savannah, and now lives on nearby Dolphin Island. This is a passage from the book, Gullah Secrets:

“We must be strong for one another,” Old Sally says. “We each hold a spark of courage. It may not feel like enough when you are alone, but together it will be enough. Together all those sparks build a fire. A fire of courage.”

Be kind to one another. Let’s build those courage fires together.
