Perseverance builds resilience. I have been writing novels for 25 years, a quarter of a century. As far as authors go, I am very resilient. Most professional writers I know do not make a living writing books. They have other jobs. A few teach at colleges or offer writing workshops. Others have a supportive spouse who is the main breadwinner. Only about 1% of the writers out there are wildly successful. For everybody else, writing novels is a get-rich-slow-or-not-at-all plan.
It was only after persevering for 20 years, that I started to make a good living at writing. I am one of the lucky ones. That’s why I am so grateful for you, my sweet readers, who have bought my books and have helped to spread the word through reviews and by telling your friends and book clubs.
After years and years of hard work in such a difficult field, I know how important it is to celebrate every success. With that in mind, I am happy to announce that the Gullah Secrets audiobook (sequel to Temple Secrets) has been named a finalist in the 2020 Independent Audiobook Awards general fiction category.
Holly Adams did a phenomenal job narrating the novel. She has performed several of my novels over the years, including The Wildflower Trilogy (The Secret Sense of Wildflower, Lily’s Song, and Daisy’s Fortune), as well as Trueluck Summer, Grace, Grits & Ghosts: Southern Short Stories, and Temple Secrets. Holly brings my stories to life, and is an invaluable member of my writing team.
