Dear friends and readers,

I can’t tell you how busy 2014 has been already! Lots of wonderful things are going on that I’m really excited about. Fearless writers were in my living room earlier in the year. I have new books coming out (2 this month)! Another was released in paperback. An amazing interview was filmed of me in my office (more about that later). I am writing a new novel (Yay!). And I’m revising another novel that’s going well. 

That said, I wanted you to be the first to know that my latest novel is out! It’s called Quentin and the Cave Boy: A Humorous Adventure Story for Ages 8 to 88. If you thought you knew what kind of books I write, guess again!

This book is a comic novel and a complete departure from my other novels. I started writing it over a decade ago and it’s finally ready to go out into the world. Here’s what it’s about:

The STONE Age meets the TEENage! Quentin Moss is an average 13-year-old boy with an anything-but-average problem: the cave boy he dreamed about last night has shown up, alive and smelly, in his bedroom. As past and present collide with comic consequences, Quentin must hide the secret identity of his new friend who is fascinated by zippers and loves to flush the toilet over and over again. Before the day is over, Quentin and his best friend, Dex, have to find a way to help the homesick cave boy get back to his home thousands of years in the past. But first they have to get through the school day.  Quentin may not be the cutest, smartest guy in school, but the way he deals with the greatest adventure of his life will have readers of all ages laughing out loud.

For those of you who are interested in creative process, the idea came to me after a dream (similar to the story of how I came up with the idea for The Secret Sense of Wildflower). In the dream, the famous writer William Faulkner was sitting on the end of my bed at my feet. He was telling me how much he enjoyed my work. (A girl can dream, can’t she?!).

The dream was so real that I could feel the author’s weight pushing down the end of the bed. This gave me the idea of writing a story where an ordinary boy dreams about a cave boy and when he wakes up the next morning the cave boy is sitting at the end of his bed complete with animal hide underwear and sabre-tooth tiger necklace.

I love to laugh and especially like to make people laugh so sometimes I write something just for pure comic entertainment.  This book is for kids ages 8 and up, especially grown-ups who need to lighten up and have a good laugh.

It is available in paperback and can be ordered through any bookstore, locally or online.
