Childhood books make a difference in our lives. The common wisdom out there is that if you loved books as a child, you are often a reader long into adulthood. And sometimes our favorite books can have a huge impact on us. They can make a difference in how we see the world.
Huffington Post asked its readers to name their favorite children’s books. The books they read as a child that they’ve never been able to forget.

I was all about horses when I was a child, and the books that will always remind me of my childhood (and, in fact, are the books that got me hooked on books!) were Walter Farley’s The Black Stallion series. People who were not obsessed with the Black Stallion don’t realize that there were actually 19 books in that series, and I read them all. That being said, my favorite Walter Farley book (and the one I re-read the most) was his fictionalized biography of Man o’ War.
As an aside, referring to the books in the article, it wasn’t until I was an adult that I read The Little Prince. It did make quite an impression on me–literally. I have a tattoo of le petit prince!
Hi Sonje, I love hearing about you reading all those Walter Farley books. I wasn’t a horse nut myself, but my best friend in 3rd grade, Lisa Hannah, was totally into them (she even had one in a pasture behind her house!) and I loved going to her house because her room was absolutely full of horse photos, horse books and horse figurines.
Also, I didn’t read The Little Prince until I read it to my daughters. Worthy of a tattoo for sure.:)
