The groups are led by acclaimed writer Susan Gabriel who has 19 years writing experience, as well as 10 years experience as a licensed professional counselor. Her novel, The Secret Sense of Wildflower, received a coveted starred review from Kirkus Reviews, which also named the novel a Best Book of 2012.

This course focuses on becoming more creative through the craft of writing. Through exercises, discussion and sharing — all designed to open you to your deeper creative self — you will gain more confidence in your writing, receive plenty of encouragement, as well as strategies for how to keep writing.

Susan loves having a room full of women writing. Some of them have been keeping journals since they were girls, others started later in life and want to write their memoirs. Still others have written a novel and different stories but are hesitant to show them to the world. ALL of them have great stories to tell in one form or another.

What participants are saying…

“I knew I wanted to write, but it was not a priority in my life – even though I wanted it to be. The Fearless Writing for Women workshop brought the writer in me back to the forefront of my life. I really appreciated the camaraderie of the group and the encouragement that flowed from them. Susan has brought my writing life back to me!”
Susan Burnside

“I am so glad I met Susan, and did this workshop. Susan is so encouraging, which has helped me tremendously. I absolutely loved the group. Even though we started this as complete strangers, it feels like we’ve known each other for a long time. I’ve never been a part of anything like this, I do feel like it is making me more confident in my writing. I have been working on a story for a while now, and I go back and forth thinking it is not worth finishing, not worth fooling with. After being in this workshop, I am starting to think it might see the light of day after all.”
Christie Merrill

“Making the decision to write my memoir gave me some purpose in life, but I would probably have given up if I had not taken this writing workshop. Susan is very accepting and inclusive. I don’t think anyone ever felt left out or criticized. I need laughter in my life and I loved Susan’s sense of humor and the way she used it to help loosen everyone up so we could write better. Her experience as a therapist also added a dimension I don’t think other writing coaches have. Susan instinctively knew what we needed to write about, what questions to ask about what we had written. Whether it’s for fun or to write and publish a book, there’s something for everyone in this workshop.”
Linda Lander

“I have done a lot of writing but have never been sure how good, creative, interesting, etc. my work is for others. I had never taken a writing class before and I wanted to learn more about creative writing. I really appreciate that the two hours were well structured and we stuck to the schedule. I have written more creative and whimsical pieces which I never would have done on my own. I would highly recommend this class: it is a safe place to share your writing and you can get great ideas by listening to the stories other women write.”
Gerry Kiley

“Initially I was hesitant to share my writing with other people. It’s a very personal thing to do, however the members of the group bonded immediately. I appreciate the kindness with which Susan gave direction, as well as the humor and thoughtfulness in the assignments. Susan also gave very helpful tips at each step of the process. I am now writing with passion and purpose and without constraint. It’s the best money I’ve ever spent on myself. I will be forever grateful to Susan for all she has given me and I will continue to seek her out for help as I continue on my writing journey. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried and we’ve touched each others’ souls.”
Susan Evans

“I have always written as a journalist, but had never written fiction. My confidence as a writer has returned and I have rediscovered the pleasure of creative writing. It’s a no-pressure class filled with supportive women who will not judge you, but will encourage you, whether you are a beginner or a veteran, talkative or shy, confident or tentative.”
Susan Zelle

“I would recommend this workshop to any woman with a yen for writing and/or creative living. This course fosters cooperation, not competition. We can write our hearts out safely and honestly, knowing we will be accepted with tenderness.”
Janet Benway

“I needed the discipline of regular writing. And how can we possibly hear the truths of our inner lives without time to explore away from home, partners, responsibilities, etc.? It takes time and quiet to reach within to write and make connections to our true selves and the way we want to live our lives.”
Paula Bennett Paddick

“In this workshop, Susan created a caring atmosphere where it feels safe to speak about tender and important matters, and where each woman can feel appreciated and heard. Having seen glimpses of the lives of the other participants helped me to understand and appreciate my own life more. Thanks, Susan, for your insight, encouragement and leadership.”
Nancy Richards

“I appreciated the peaceful, respectful environment. I’ve enjoyed hearing the others’ writing and getting to know the other women in this nurturing environment. Writing is something that I can and will continue to do. I don’t feel like I’m going to drop it this time.”
Carol Dodson

“I was concerned that I wouldn’t be up to the standards of the group or have anything to write, but the writing prompts were wonderful, and there was great support and a positive atmosphere. I now feel like I am capable of writing something worthwhile, and I feel like what I have to say matters.”
Kathy Reiff

“From taking this workshop, I am different by way of clarity, confidence and courage. Through the writing prompts and optional homework, I see more clearly who I am and what makes me come alive. Give yourself the gift of time and space to be among other women, sip tea and linger in a safe place where you get to write and choose whether or not you share. I’m a wholehearted mom to four kids under 12 and so thankful I said ‘Yes!’ Susan is a gem of a soul, a gifted writer and woman fully alive. You will be blessed and nurtured by this workshop.”
Amanda Walters

“From taking this workshop, I know it is worth it to leave my kids for two hours to tackle my craft. I know my family and friends truly do support this part of my journey and that I am good enough at it to keep on writing. Just do it. There is chocolate. :-)”
