This week I offer two quotes on art that I love. One by Pablo Picasso. The other by Thomas Merton.
Does one resonate with you more than the other? Do you have another favorite quote about art that you’d like to share?
ART WASHES AWAY FROM THE SOUL THE DUST OF EVERYDAY LIFE -- Pablo Picasso
ART ENABLES US TO FIND OURSELVESAND LOSE OURSELVES AT THE SAME TIME -- Thomas Merton
(Artwork by Picasso)

I guess for me, the first one resonates more. As to the second one, I definitely lose myself, but I don’t know that I find myself. Well, that point could be argued, but I don’t know that I’d put it that way.
I have two quotes that I like a lot, more about the process (of writing, primarily) than the result. Without further ado….
“I was working on the proof of one of my poems all the morning, and took out a comma. In the afternoon I put it back again.”
–Oscar Wilde
“It takes a lot of time to be a genius, you have to sit around so much doing nothing, really doing nothing.”
–Gertrude Stein
Thomas Merton and Pablo Picasso, now that is an interesting combination.
Love those, Sonja! Thanks! It turns out I may be a “genius” after all.
Yes, Nadine, they are a interesting pair, but it seems they both knew a little bit about art.
Also, a comment with one of my wonderful email subscribers:
“Of the two quotes, I identify with the Thomas Merton quote, more.” – T.
