<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">What if we proclaimed <strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">2009</strong> to be <strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">The Year of Gratitude</strong>? It is a year predicted to be rocky in terms of the U.S. economy. There is certainly plenty to worry about already. But what if instead of rushing toward worry and fear, we rushed toward gratitude?</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: small;"><strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">Gratitude</strong>, according to </span></span><a href="http://www.dictionary.com/"><span style="font-size: small; color: #0000ff; font-family: Times New Roman;">www.dictionary.com</span></a><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"> is </span><span style="color: #4d4e51; font-family: Verdana;">the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful. </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="color: #4d4e51; font-family: Verdana;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">Simple, right? We’ve probably all read articles where experts have stated that an attitude of gratitude can lead to happier, healthier, and less stress-filled lives. Even Oprah got on the bandwagon for a while, suggesting gratitude journals. But why is it so hard sometimes to consciously be grateful? </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">If forced to name things we’re grateful for we can probably come up with the big things: our partners, spouses, kids, friends, Fido and Fluffy, and perhaps even our jobs. And of course if our health is good or even mediocre, it is something to be grateful for, compared to so many who suffer. But I don’t think gratitude has to only be about the big things. Sometimes it can be the medium things and small things that make our lives a little less hard or a little more enjoyable. Take blueberries, for instance, or a really good pen. </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">So <em style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">what if </em>we proclaimed <strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">2009</strong> to be <strong style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">THE YEAR OF GRATITUDE</strong>? How might your life be better if you consciously intended to stay focused on the things you are thankful for? Why don’t we try it? I’d love to hear what you think and if you’re willing to spend more time being grateful this year.</span></span></p>
